Frank Lowy, AC, is an Australian businessman born in in the former Czechoslovakia in 1930. He is best known for his co-founding and continuing involvement with The Westfield Group, a retail giant that owns dozens of shopping centres in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Britain. His sons, Steven and Peter Lowy, joint managing directors of the two Westfield trusts.
Tomáš Baťa (born April 3, 1896 Zlin Morava).Bata began his career making shoes and grew his business to become the largest leather factory in Europe. By 1928, it was producing 75,000 pairs of shoes daily. Tomáš Baťa died in a plane crash in 1932. BATA -Today the company operates in 68 countries.
Zuzana Licko is the co-founder of Emigre, together with her husband Rudy VanderLans. Licko was born in 1961 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia and emigrated to the U.S. in 1968; she graduated with a degree in graphic communications from U.C. Berkeley in 1984. Emigre Magazine was founded in 1984, and garnered much critical acclaim when it began to incorporate Licko’s digital typeface designs, created with the first generation of the Macintosh computer. This exposure of her typefaces in Emigre magazine led to the manufacture of Emigre Fonts, which Emigre now distributes as software, worldwide.

Štefan Banič (23 November 1870 – 2 January 1941) is the inventor of the military parachute and of the first actually used parachute.Born on 23 November 1870 in Nestich (Neštich), now part of Smolenice, Slovakia. Štefan constructed a prototype of a parachute in 1913 and tested it in Washington D.C. in front of the U.S. Patent Office and military representatives by jumping from a 41-floor building and subsequently from an airplane in 1914. Banič donated U.S. Patent (No. 1,108,484) to the U.S. Army. He received little fame or fortune for his invention.

dfg, asi nieco na tom bude 🙂 aj v Atench je Adriana kazdu chvilu, maju tu prmanentne prnajatu vilu uz niekolko rokov. Asi pred tyzdnom su ju zase zahliadnla v tvlke v nejakej talk show, bola spoluorganizatorka nejkej humanitnej akcie. To v kazdom state tvrdi, ze je jej oblubenym? tu stale hovori, ze kebyze je to mozne z profesionalneho hladiska, ze najradsej by sa tu usadili natrvalo :-)) hihi 🙂 ona je horsia ako grecki balici zien 🙂
mas pravdu, dokonca bol aj na Slovensku, po revolucii. Len ste asi boli maldsi , ze si to nepamatate. Skoda, ze vela Slovakov ktori tam odidu, neuci svoje deti po slovensky, co je skoda. A potom hladanie slovenskych korenov je tazsie. A je dost blbe, ked sa vnuci nevedia rozpravat so slovenskou babickou.
Jana uplne s tebou suhlasim, ale nie vzdy to je jednoduche ucit deti iny jazyk. Ked su obidvaja rodicia slovaci, tam nieje problem, rozpravaju sa medzi sebou slovensky a dieta sa uci, vonku s detmi sa uci iny jazyk. Ja rozpravam slovensky, manzel spanielsky a zijeme v Australii. Rozpravame sa anglicky. Ja nemam s kym komunikovat moj jazyk a muz tak isto. Preto som sla s detmi do skolky na Slovensko na 1 rok. Tam sa deti naucili velmi dobre po slovensky. Lenze teraz su velke, ja hovorim po slovensky a oni odpovedaju anglicky. Pre anglicky hovoriace deti sa tazko vyslovuju nejake slova a oni sa hanbia a preto pouzivaju anglitcinu. Inac naposledy s babickou hovorili slovensky s anglickym prizvukom. Vonku sa hanbili, pretoze par slovenskych deti sa im smialo, tomu prizvuku.

Warhol was born as Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
